In a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) representatives from national hydrogen associations of Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Norway and Sweden address they will work together for an emission free transport corridor in the Baltic Sea Region.

The Baltic Sea Region, with 80 million people in a large territory and the Baltic Sea as a sensitive ecosystem, calls for new innovations and solutions for sustainable, multimodal and green transport corridors.

In a cooperation platform called the Baltic Sea Region Hydrogen Network, five countries will collaborate and coordinate on advancing and promoting competence exchange within the use of hydrogen as a zero-emission fuel for the transport sector and as an energy carrier within the energy sector.

Amongst the objectives is to increase the knowledge and promote the use of renewable energy for hydrogen production for transport and elaborate synergies with other use of hydrogen together wiht other energy carriers.

– We are exited to announce this cooperation as a part of our European fellowship. There is a need to establish a system that underpins European economic progress while at the same time using resources more efficiently. Working together we have the possibility to develop a clean transport corridor in the region with less negative impact on the environment and key natural assets like water, land and ecosystems, says Björn Aronsson, Managing Director Hydrogen Sweden.

The MoU was agreed upon during the first of a Baltic Sea Region Hydrogen Network annual event. Signing partners are Brintbranchen/Hydrogen Denmark, Estonian Association of Hydrogen Technologies, Latvian Hydrogen Association, Norwegian Hydrogen Forum and Hydrogen Sweden. More countries and interested stakeholders are welcome to join the network.
