The goal with the project H2moves Scandinavia is to gain customer acceptance for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV). By operating several FCEVs in Scandinavia and build one new hydrogen refuelling station in Oslo, the broad public will be introduced to a technology ready to be commercialised. Next summer we will perform a road tour in Europe to demonstrate the vehicles together with a transportable hydrogen refuelling unit specially developed for the tour.

  • Boost of European industry’s competitiveness

Our Strategy

H2moves Scandinavia aims to demonstrate the market readiness of fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen refueling infrastructure. Being part of the Scandinavian Hydrogen Highway the vehicles will also use the existing hydrogen refueling network in Norway. Harsh climate conditions and daily operation are challenges to be faced. In a further step the project aims to close the infrastructure gap between Norway and already ongoing fuel cell demonstration projects in Germany and the rest of Europe.

Certification and Safety

TÜV SÜD (Germany) and SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden develop a plan for safety alert procedures through Scandinavia. Procedures for certification and approval of new types of vehicles is also analyzed, aiming to facilitate harmonized requirements and procedures. This, together with related exchange of information and experience between the countries, are important steps to reduce costs and lead times for market introduction of vehicles and refueling stations.

The Implementation

A state-of-the-art hydrogen refueling station will be opened in Oslo in 2011, offering a customer friendly and safe hydrogen refueling service. Our car fleet will contain of ten Mercedes F-Cell B-Class, five Th!nk battery electric vehicles with fuel cell range extender in daily operation. The cars will be operated by regular customers. They will mostly be driven within the city of Oslo and in the whole Scandinavian region. A safety study will accompany the project to identify the certification gaps in Scandinavia to accelerate full commercialization of fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen refueling stations. The project’s performance will be monitored and assessed versus benchmarks.

We are part of a bigger picture

In October 2008 the Joint Technology Initiative (FCH JU) on Hydrogen & Fuel Cells was officially launched by the European Commission (EC) and European industry. Main focus is to increase the impact of industrial level activities in Europe in this field and accelerate the market introduction of hydrogen and specifically fuel cell technologies to address the major three European policy targets:

  1. Energy diversity
  2. Mitigation of greenhouse gas (GHG) effect
  3. Increase the share of renewable energies

With this project the Scandinavian Hydrogen Highway Partnership (SHHP) became the first FCH JU funded European Lighthouse Project (LHP) for hydrogen fuel cell cars. Correspondingly, the LHP has been christened “H2moves Scandinavia” being synonymous to “H2moves.eu” as acronym for the cluster of European demonstration projects on hydrogen for transport.[/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
